Messinger & Company, dry goods and clothing store, in recent years this building was a part of Newberry's. Farther east the steeple of the old Baptist Church, built in 1892, can be seen, this steeple was removed in 1968. In the far background, across the railroad tracks, stood the Waverly Hotel, built in 1858 as a girls school, it no longer stands having been razed in 1973. On right at the corner of Main and Davis is the R.F. Booton furniture store, built in 1898, now Gayheart's drug store. The J.A. Swan Jr. & Company farm machinery building built in 1903, can be seen, it is now Culpeper Appliances, Inc." -- note with photograph.Culpeper, VADavis Street, Culpeper, VAJ. Messinger & Co.
